A report by noted academic Kamal Subhi submitted to the Saudi Arabian monarchy asserts that lifting the ban on women driving in that country will encourage premarital sex and ruin the tradition of virgin brides. The ban has stood unofficially since 1990, when 47 women drove down the streets of Riyadh, only to be suspended from work for two years and widely admonished by religious leaders. The report is believed to be backlash against recent social changes allowing more freedom to women, proposed by 87 year-old King Abdullah.
